The district is currently represented by Republican Jack Kingston, though the district's boundaries have been redrawn following the 2010 census, which granted an additional congressional seat to Georgia.

On the Republican side, at least three members of Congress are potential candidates: Jack Kingston, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson.

In 1996 legislation was passed by Jack Kingston that prevented the NPS from taking measures to manage the horses.

Mr. Chambliss was forced out of his Congressional seat, for example, because he was paired with another Republican, Jack Kingston.
