"We correctly label these groups as lunatic fringe," Rabbi Cooper said.
"The concentration camp manager game, its package looked like some sort of money game," Rabbi Cooper said.
"What used to be done in the stalls of bathrooms is now on line," Rabbi Cooper said in an interview.
Rabbi Cooper said he took Madonna at her word.
But religious custom also cautions against the appearance of impropriety, and Rabbi Cooper found the scene disturbing.
Like Burdi, Rabbi Cooper has seen rock-and-roll as the future of white power, and he is worried.
What Rabbi Cooper and other civil rights leaders fear is that the new technology could produce a mass hate movement in the United States.
Rabbi Cooper said late yesterday that the altered commercial broadcast had met almost all the objections about that broadcast.
"Some of the stuff we showed them was as explicit as you can get," Rabbi Cooper said.
"It's good to try to wrap yourself around free speech," Rabbi Cooper said, "but in this case it doesn't wash."
