"The whole mutual fund industry has gone crazy," said Gerald W. Perritt, editor of The Mutual Fund Letter, an advisory newsletter published in Chicago.

Fund managers, who are paid to pick stocks, tend to put little store in timing, while market strategists and editors of advisory newsletters are more likely to adhere to it.

"Everybody thinks you cannot lose in buying real estate," said Gray Emerson Cardiff, editor and publisher of Sound Advice, an eight-year-old investment advisory newsletter.

Eric M. Kobren, executive editor of Fidelity Insight, an independent advisory newsletter, likes Fidelity's Europe Capital Appreciation and Europe funds.

The company specializes in investment research with an information services product line consisting primarily of monthly and bi-monthly advisory newsletters written by a variety of financial editors.

Louis Navellier, chief investment officer of Navellier & Associates and the editor of several advisory newsletters, said the dollar, even a falling one, posed no great threat.

Consider the sentiment measure kept by Investors Intelligence, an advisory newsletter edited by Michael Burke.

Another measure of this group's mood comes from Investors Intelligence, an advisory newsletter, which measures the number of advisers who say they are bullish or bearish.

He resigned from NBC to work full time on his advisory newsletter, No-Load Fund Investor Inc., as he now continues to do.
