Seven children and two counselors remained hospitalized in Pennsylvania yesterday, said Roderick Mitchell, the president of the restoration corporation, a community development group.

Its renovation was completed not by his department, but rather by the nonprofit restoration corporation that operates the park for the city.

Andrew Heiskell, chairman of the library and of the restoration corporation, said the gifts would help transform the park "into a graceful and useful public space."

But the restoration corporation fell on hard times when much of its Federal funding was cut early in the Reagan Administration.

The restoration corporation described it as a "handsome building, massive despite its small size."

Under the plan to be presented today, the restaurant will be built by the restoration corporation at a cost of $7 million, and leased to an operator.

The restoration corporation is a private, nonprofit organization financed by foundations and corporations whose offices flank the park.

Since the restoration corporation was formed in 1980, Bryant Park has been considerably enlivened during the day.

"It's a small miracle," said Arthur Rosenblatt, vice-president for capital projects of the restoration corporation.
