The trade center sign was one of 42 markers highlighting points of interest around Lower Manhattan, installed six years ago by a nonprofit group called Heritage Trails New York.
Heritage Trails also sells two 90-minute self-drive audiocassette tours of Farmington and Hartford ($9.95 each, plus $2.50 per order if ordering by mail).

On History's Trail THURSDAY - Heritage Trails New York, an organization that installs markers at historical sites in lower Manhattan and offers free, self-guided tours of the area, will hold a dinner and theater benefit.
All the site markers, costing $10,000 each, are to be in place by year's end along the already established orange, red, blue and green Heritage Trails on 4.5 miles of Lower Manhattan's streets.
And Heritage Trails New York, a nonprofit group that gives walking tours of lower Manhattan historic sites, added a weekly World of Finance tour this summer and quickly sold out through Labor Day.
This was formed by a merger of Girl Scouts - Seal of Ohio Council, Girl Scouts - Heart of Ohio, and Heritage Trails Girl Scout Council on January 1, 2009.

Heritage Trails also offers daily minibus tours of Hartford and of black history and Amistad sites in Farmington ($15 each).
