He used his chin to point at the machine Grig had recommended for study.

Grig jerked to halt and rubbed a hand over his head.

"Looks like you may be in charge now, Grig.

Uncle would, too, as Grig knew from bitter experience.

Grig sat, though he wouldn't have owned to comfortable, and raised a hand.

"You make it sound as if it were my choice, Grig.

"Finish your sip, boy," Grig instructed, taking one of his own.

Grig took the card with a smile and put it away in an inner pocket of the jacket.

We breed, like Grig here gone and done, the very next generation goes back to default."

Grig smiled, and sent a glance to his sister.

I shall be as merry as a grig among these gentry.

"The orb of day has set on Thomas Grig for ever!"

"We'll do it," Grig said, nodding, too, with his face still a study in grim.

Grig looked up and put the brew down.
