langbeinite

Langbeinite is a potassium magnesium sulfate mineral with formula: KMg(SO).

It occurs in association with fedotovite, klyuchevskite, lammerite, nabokoite, atlasovite, langbeinite, hematite and tenorite.

The East facility, produces sylvite and langbeinite potash, and is capable of fully processing its ore to the storage or shipment stage.

Langbeinite crystallizes in the isometric - tetartoidal system as transparent colorless or white with pale tints of yellow to green and violet crystalline masses.

Potassium salts such as carnallite, langbeinite, polyhalite, and sylvite form extensive deposits in ancient lake and seabeds, making extraction of potassium salts in these environments commercially viable.

The most common minerals that are generally considered to be the most representative of marine evaporates are calcite, gypsum and anhydrite, halite, sylvite, carnallite, langbeinite, polyhalite, and kanite.

The sulfate is produced mostly by decomposition of the complex minerals kainite (MgSO KCl 3HO) and langbeinite (MgSO KSO).

The Permian Basin is also a major source of potassium salts (potash), which are mined from bedded deposits of sylvite and langbeinite in the Salado Formation of Permian age.
