There seems to be a method of marcotting through mature woody stems.

Asexual propagations using marcotting, budding, and grafting were too inconsistent to be used in commercial production.

Cultivated Jasminum sambac generally do not bear seeds and the plant is reproduced solely by cuttings, layering, marcotting, and other methods of asexual propagation.

They used to be grown with mixed results from seeds of trees bearing superior quality fruit, but now are propagated by layering, marcotting, or more commonly, by grafting, including bud, veneer, wedge, whip or U-grafting onto seedlings of randomly selected rootstocks.

In air layering (or marcotting), the target region is wounded, or a strip of bark is removed and then encased in a moisture-retaining medium such as sphagnum moss, or cloth which is further surrounded in a moisture barrier such as plastic film.
