Warm Springs Dam is a multi-purpose reservoir serves as a flood control, water supply and recreational facility.

Completed in 1971, this multi-purpose reservoir was envisaged mainly to meet municipal water demands of Ranchi city and the adjoining industrial area.

In 1938, the Refuge was established by Executive Order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and became the first National Wildlife Refuge to be overlain on a multi-purpose reservoir.

Recreational use of Lake Diefenbaker, Saskatchewan Lake Diefenbaker, created by the Gardiner and Qu’Appelle dams on the South Saskatchewan River, is a multi-purpose reservoir.
