"Demolition Man" was released as the lead single from Grace Jones's 1981 album Nightclubbing.

In 1981 it was covered by Grace Jones, who included it on Nightclubbing, her second Compass Point album and later released as the last single from the record.

Island Life would feature songs from most of Jones' Island Records albums: Portfolio, Fame, Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing, Living My Life, and Slave to the Rhythm.

The liner notes of the 2006 Universal Music compilation The Grace Jones Story stated that "a double deluxe CD edition of Nightclubbing is being released in May 2006 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her keynote work".

The strong rhythm featured on Nightclubbing, was under the production of Compass Point All Stars line up, including Sly and Robbie, Wally Badarou, Mikey Chung, Uziah "Sticky" Thompson, and Barry Reynolds.

After the commercial success of Nightclubbing, Island Records re-released the Warm Leatherette album with new artwork, replacing Jean-Paul Goude's original cover with a picture of Jones performing "Walking in the Rain", taken from her 1982 concert video A One Man Show.
