Efforts to solve traffic problems have been made but most of the city streets and bridges are now crowded and insufficient to handle regular and rush hours traffic; a forty km/h speed limit in most parts of the city worsens the situation.

Midtown is crowded and at peak hours traffic can stop dead, but it seems unlikely that a few hundred pedicabs, each one about 50 inches wide, are appreciably increasing congestion, particularly as they are not all in operation at once and many of them focus on tourist circuits of Central Park.
