Redesignated: 463d Airlift Group on 31 March 1997.

With this conversion came the strategic airlift mission and the designation of the 164th Airlift Group.

It also would leave the 250 pilots, loadmasters, maintenance workers and other personnel of the 135th Airlift Group without an assignment.

With this conversion came the strategic airlift mission and redesignation as the 164th Airlift Group.

The 191st Airlift Group being inactivated.

On 15 April 1992, the unit was redesignated the 165th Airlift Group.

It is part of the 43d Airlift Group at Pope Field, North Carolina.

It works with the 43rd Airlift Group in this capacity.

The 143rd Airlift Group continues to support State, Federal and United Nations activities throughout the world.

The unit was named the 166th Military Airlift Group.
