Originally, the Airport Expressway's position was the old airport road.

Today, the old airport road has become a service, or auxiliary road, to the current Airport Expressway.

At rare times, the total vehicle flow on the Airport Expressway overwhelms the maximum projected limit.

It was opened to traffic as the Airport Expressway on September 9, 1992.

A direct ramp connection from both directions to the Airport Expressway was finished in 2006.

Airport Expressway was first designated as an expressway in 2001.

Airport Expressway was planned in the 1970s, it would have followed mostly Dalman Road.
