"Amnesty for those who did not commit crimes," he said.

"It was not known if any of these punishments were imposed," Amnesty said.

Amnesty said it found evidence of torture and ill-treatment by the police.

Amnesty said the detainees, many of them military officers, had been denied food and water.

Even the legal fight is far from over, said Amnesty and other campaigners.

"The suffering and abuse endured by these women goes far beyond the actual rape," Amnesty said.

At least 25 people died in that operation alone, Amnesty says.

Amnesty said the deal with Jordan was "not worth the paper it is printed on".
