No participants at Art Expo have signed up for NICAF this year and the organisers have weighted the event heavily towards cultural and educational activities.

Indeed, most major New York dealers have avoided Art Expo, preferring instead to show at more prestigious art expositions, especially the annual Chicago Art Fair.

This year, though, Art Expo has arranged an entirely separate, more exclusive grouping of dealers, which will run nearly simultaneously with Art Expo, from March 18 to 21.

"The fair is small, and we want it that way," said Maura Haverly, the director of both Art Expo and of the newer exposition.

A lot of dealers have told me they'd like to show in New York, but didn't feel Art Expo was the place.
