Battle of Greece (1941)

It participated in the Battles of Greece and later in Crete.

His participation in the Battle of Greece was of brief duration; he embarked on 10 April 1941 and was back less than two weeks later.

He therefore missed the Battle of Greece, in which the 2/1st was nearly destroyed, with over 500 of its diggers taken prisoners.

At the last stages of the Battle of Greece, a significant number of troops was using battledress and the brodie helmet.

In the latter role he commanded Australian and Commonwealth troops in the disastrous Battle of Greece.

However, before the first of the detachments had been embarked on the ships, the Battle of Greece ended as the Germans overran that country.

The 6th Division's next campaign was the failed Battle of Greece, a disaster for the British Commonwealth forces sent there.

The Greek government-in-exile was founded in April 1941 with the onset of the Battle of Greece.
