Jackson was commissioned into the 1st Bedfordshire Regiment in 1899.

Several casualties result, including the death of a Captain in the Bedfordshire Regiment.

In 1899 he transferred to the Bedfordshire Regiment, where his elder brother Henry was also an officer.

On 11 July 1917 it amalgamated with 5th Reserve battalion, the Bedfordshire Regiment.

He served in World War I from 1915-1916 in the Bedfordshire Regiment.

In 1782 the 14th was named "The 14th (Bedfordshire) Regiment".

He initially refused to apply for a commission until his elder brother forced him to, and in 1915 he was commissioned in the Bedfordshire Regiment.

After training he again returned to the Bedfordshire Regiment and served with them in both India and England.

Another 25 of those killed were new recruits to the 5th Battalion the Bedfordshire Regiment.

The British suffered casualties and admitted one fatality, a captain in the Bedfordshire Regiment, although some local sources claimed several more were killed.
