In the mid-1970s, an overpass over Main Street was constructed, and SR 92 was rerouted on this new stretch of Lake Acworth Drive connecting to Cherokee Street.
This led to an organized mass protest the night of August 20 and 21 at the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and Cherokee Street in San Diego.
The official boundaries of the area are Gravois Avenue on the north, Cherokee Street on the south, I-55 on the east, and Jefferson Avenue on the west.
The centerpiece of the historic district is Druim Moir Castle (1885-86), whose main gate is at the corner of Willow Grove Avenue and Cherokee Street.
Begins at SH-82 (3rd Street) in Langley, following Cherokee Street to the east.
Along with the streetcar route, bustling commercial districts developed along Cherokee Street, South Broadway and Jefferson Avenue.
From this point, SH-127 eastbound proceeds north along South 5th Street to Cherokee Street, where it turns west.
