In 1393, Oberstaufenbach had its first documentary mention in a document of bestowal from Count Friedrich of Veldenz.
Count Friedrich insisted on the payment of the 6,000 ducat surety.
Furthermore, Oswald had to swear to refrain from any contact with nobles from outside Tyrol unless sanctioned by Count Friedrich.
This changed with the death of Count Friedrich on 24 June 1439.
In 1402, Count Friedrich confirmed for him that this rental income could be bequeathed to his offspring.

The County of Veldenz came to an end in 1444 when Count Friedrich of Veldenz died.
About 1057, he married Haziga of Diessen, daughter of Count Friedrich of Diessen.
