Steege returned to the Department of Air in December 1961, where he rose to Director of Plans.

He became head of communications security in 1982, and in 1983, he was appointed Director of Policy and Plans.

In 2007, he returned to Air Force Space Command as Director of Plans, Programs and Analyses.

He went on to be Director of Plans at the Admiralty.

Later in his career, he was named Director of Plans of Air Force Material Command.

The family moved to Canberra in 1962 when he joined Navy Office as Director of Plans.

A qualified senior navigator, he became Director of Plans at the Admiralty in 1930.

Cunningham was posted to the Admiralty as Director of Plans in December 1930.

In 1985, he became Director of Medical Plans and Resources after having previously served as Deputy Director.

Mentioned in despatches on 18 February 1938, he took over as Director of Plans on 22 December 1938.
