Tranmere won promotion as Fourth Division runners-up in 1988-89.
He guided them to promotion as Second Division runners-up in 1961–62 .
In addition the men's tennis team also was national Division II runners-up.
They returned to the top division as Division Two runners-up in 1996-97.
In his time there, the team were relegated twice, in 1909-10 and subsequently re-promoted as Second Division runners-up.
