When his father died in 1809, he became the 4th Duke of Portland.

These orders were later changed by the Duke of Portland.

The manor then passed into the hands of the Duke of Portland.

On 27 March 1854 he succeeded his father as 5th Duke of Portland.

It was then sold to the Duke of Portland in 1866.

The land was donated by the Duke of Portland and the church cost £10,000.

In addition to this land, the legacy of the Dukes of Portland lives on.

The line was opened on 20 May 1900 by the Duke of Portland.

The land on which the school was built and the (now) tree-lined drive were donated by the Duke of Portland.

After 1883 the castle was uninhabited and eventually given to the nation by the 7th Duke of Portland in 1945.
