Together with the Primero River (Suquía) and the Dulce River, it forms part of the basin of Central Argentina.

The bay receives the runoff from three major rivers: the Moho River in Belize, and the Sarstoon River and Dulce River in Guatemala.

It is located on the banks of the Dulce River, 65 km north of the provincial capital Santiago del Estero, near the artificial Río Hondo Lake.

It lies at sea level and is connected by the Dulce River from Lake Izabal draining to the Amatique Bay in the Caribbean Sea.

The Dulce River originates near San Miguel de Tucumán and flows southwest into the lake.

Lake Izabal is connected with the Caribbean Sea via the Dulce River and El Golfete lake.

Dulce River (Argentina)

Dulce River ("Sweet River") is a river in Guatemala, completely contained within the department of Izabal.

It lies on the Dulce River and on National Route 9, at a distance of 1,042 km north-northwest from Buenos Aires.

The site was located at the mouth of the Dulce River, where the river empties into the Gulf of Honduras.
