The land for the church was given by the 13th Earl of Derby.

The site was given by the 14th Earl of Derby, who also donated £1,000.

He succeeded his father as Earl of Derby in 1162.

There is also a memorial to the 16th Earl of Derby who died in 1908.

These may well have been imported by the 13th Earl of Derby.
