It is known as Penny Avenue in East Dundee.
The town was incorporated in 1867, four years before East Dundee.
East Dundee is not alone in its dependence.
But the case of East Dundee is different.
"East Dundee does not really have in my eyes a true retail-designated area other than probably the Wal-Mart store," he said.
"It could very well be that we would serve East Dundee from a nearby location."
To be sure, some in East Dundee would not mourn Wal-Mart's departure.
It was extended east in 1937 and 1938 to East Dundee, and then to Chicago.
West Dundee was incorporated in 1867 and East Dundee followed four years later.
Development of East Dundee has been slowed by a lack of land.
