An enormous avalanche has completely altered the East Face of Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand.

The North Ridge and East Face of Mount McArthur to the northwest are also very good alpine outings.

It is also the most common descent route for those who have climbed the extremely technical routes on the East Face.

The East Face is almost all rock, most of which seems in the condition not to be climbed.
