"I think this is very, very difficult for him," Father Doyle said.

Father Doyle's supporters are convinced he himself is now a victim.

Father Doyle admits he simply put a fence around it first and then set about negotiating a lease.

And Father Doyle worries that it could lead to conflicts.

Father Doyle said the victim's lawsuit over the therapy was baseless.

"The church would be untrue to its mission if it did not try to shape public policy," Father Doyle said.

Father Doyle said he makes it a point to address the legislative and moral reasons for supporting a bill, not the religious ones.
