Over the next 13 years, she made 10 deployments to the Mediterranean, alternating that service with 2nd Fleet duty along the Atlantic coast of the United States.
By the end of summer, the crisis had subsided, and Abbot took up routine 6th Fleet duty until returning to Newport on Veterans Day 1958.
Into the 1960s, Truckee alternated 6th Fleet Mediterranean cruises with 2nd Fleet duty in the Atlantic.
On occasion 1st Fleet duty sent her to the Central Pacific as in 1954 when she assisted in Operation Castle, an atomic test series.
As new flagship of Destroyer Division 72, she sailed 8 March 1961 for 7th Fleet duty.
For the next four months, she performed the usual U.S. 7th Fleet duty visiting a number of ports, towing ships, and conducting salvage training.
On 3 September she sailed for 6th Fleet duty in the Mediterranean.
Upon returning from Northern Europe on 1 August, the ship took part in training operations until 6 May 1957, when she sailed once more for 6th Fleet duty.
Returning from 6th Fleet duty in May, she participated in fleet and type training from Labrador to the Caribbean.
The ship sailed for 7th Fleet duty in August and was assigned to Taiwan patrol.
