This week, Christie's announced that it would auction 62 American paintings and sculptures from the Forbes Collection on Nov. 29.
Monie Begley, a spokeswoman for the Forbes Collection, said the family had decided to sell some works because Forbes's children have different tastes and have decided to refine their collections.
(The Forbes Collection sold its best Hopper, a large interior, to the actor Steve Martin privately two years ago for a reported $10 million.)
Its highlight is the Lily of the Valley Egg of gold, enamel, diamonds, rubies, pearls and rock crystal, lent by the Forbes Collection.
In 2004 it was sold as part of Forbes Collection to Viktor Vekselberg.
An illustrated lecture tonight at 6 on "Carl Faberge: Imperial Jeweler" will be given by Margaret Kelly, curator of the Forbes Collection.
