"If you have a tong war going on in Florida, that's a good thing," said the Gore strategist.

"If they do not stop us there, we will not be stopped," a top Gore strategist said.

Top Gore strategists are mad at Bill and at each other.

Gore strategists said over the past few days that undecided voters were shifting their way.

"We used to say, in the late 80's, if you don't like the issues terrain, change it," one Gore strategist said.

"You want the first thing people say to be positive and be something you can build on," one Gore strategist said.

"These are not new words in the dictionary," a top Gore strategist said.

A top Gore strategist explained the campaign's thinking this way: "In 1992, there was a classic desire for change," he said.

A top Gore strategist said the goal was to drum up enthusiasm among supporters but to avoid negative news coverage.
