Returning to Australia, Jackson filled a number of staff positions, including postings to the Royal Military College, Army Headquarters and Headquarters Western Command.
Having been raised to air commodore, his final appointment before retiring in 1972 was on the staff of Headquarters Operational Command (now Air Command) at RAAF Base Glenbrook, New South Wales.
He then served as SASO at Headquarters Operational Command (now Air Command) in Glenbrook, New South Wales, from May 1970 until retiring from the Air Force on 31 October 1972.
After completing his tenure at No. 3 AD in January 1969, Rowland was appointed Senior Engineering Staff Officer at Headquarters Operational Command in Glenbrook, New South Wales.
Headquarters Command held command reins at Andrews from 1947 through 1952 and again after 1957.
When the Citizen Military Force (CMF) was restructured, Captain Whitelaw returned to the Active List with Headquarters Western Command on 4 July 1948.
In 1975 he was the Staff Officer Operations and then from 1976-1977 the Senior Air Staff Officer at Headquarters Operational Command.
He was Brigadier on the General Staff at Headquarters Western Command from 1954 and was then appointed General Officer Commanding 44th (Home Counties) Division and Home Counties District in 1956.
The entire operation came under Headquarters Scottish Command, which had been commanded by General Andrew Thorne since 7 May 1941.
Subsequently known as Headquarters Operational Command, later Headquarters Air Command, the site was purchased in mid-1949, and became operational at the end of the year.
