The case arose from a 1985 commercial created by Young & Rubicam for for Ford's Lincoln-Mercury division.

He supervised styling at the Lincoln-Mercury division, influencing the implementation of many automotive designs.

The Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford is also part of the new group and has already made the move west.

Edsel Ford, 40 years old, is a sales and marketing manager with Ford's Lincoln-Mercury division.

"We are not walking away from our traditional buyers," said James G. O'Connor, general manager of the Lincoln-Mercury division.

The Lincoln-Mercury division will transfer 120 to 130 people to Irvine, Calif., later this year, including sales, marketing, advertising and vehicle development managers.

Edsel Ford 2d, the sales manager for Ford's Lincoln-Mercury division, said yesterday that the family supported the current management of the company and planned no changes.

More than a year ago, Edsel Ford, for example, was turned down in his bid to run the Lincoln-Mercury division, but he still wants the job.

In 1945 the Lincoln-Mercury division would be established to change that.
