Four years later he was paid $15 as a session man on Herb Alpert's debut album, The Lonely Bull.

He wrote the song "Lonely Bulls" that will appear on this release.

He was pulled into the sport by Nate Duroff, who had extended the $35,000 credit he needed to press 350,000 singles of "The Lonely Bull."

"Our first single, 'The Lonely Bull,' was a big success in 1962," Mr. Alpert recalled.

Alpert adapted the trumpet style to the tune, mixed in crowd cheers and other noises for ambience, and renamed the song "The Lonely Bull".
