Lord Irwin, the Viceroy of India later said:

It was formally opened on 15 November 1928 by the then Viceroy, Lord Irwin.

There was much criticism in England of Lord Irwin's action.

The opening ceremony was performed on 26 October 1927 by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India.

A month following the Gandhi-Irwin Pact, Lord Irwin retired and left India.

During the inaugural lecture, Lord Irwin stated:

'I succumbed', Gandhi said later, 'not to Lord Irwin but to the honesty in him.'

Lord Irwin, the Viceroy of India, left for London on leave from July 1929.

The growing number of women in the fight for independence was a "new and serious feature" according to Lord Irwin.

He wrote to Lord Irwin, again telling him of his plans.
