The MGM version was produced by Victor Saville and adapted by John Lee Mahin from the screenplay of the earlier film by Percy Heath and Samuel Hoffenstein.
The film is known for staying particularly close to the novel, its primary elimination being the journey to Glinda, which is only now slightly less of a deus ex machina than in the MGM version.
The original version (no longer in print) was replaced by the MGM version, released in March.
In Hollywood Mr. Gennaro recreated his Broadway choreography for the 1965 MGM version of "Molly Brown," which starred Debbie Reynolds.
This remark is completely left out of the MGM version, as is the term colored folks, which Queenie uses.
Though Mr. Brix made two Tarzan movies for the independent production company with which Mr. Burroughs was associated, neither came close to challenging the success of the MGM versions.
