A different pattern was employed on the Main South Line.

The station opened in 1869, about ten years after the opening of the Main South Line.

Presently, it essentially functions as a continuation of the Main South Line.

Many secondary and branch lines had junctions with the Main South Line.

The Main South Line is now almost wholly without any passenger trains.

The nearest railway is now the Main South Line near the coast.

It is a useful bypass line when engineering works close the Main South Line.
