Micro Focus purchased the product line from Compuware in 2009.
Micro Focus called off the talks in August after bids fell short of expectations.
So far, Micro Focus has fared well in the downturn because it helps clients cut costs.
Earlier this week, Micro Focus said "it has received a very preliminary, non-binding approach in relation to a possible offer for the company".
Micro Focus, which updates computer systems and tests software, said: "It is currently considering its response to the approach."
In July 2009, Micro Focus acquired Borland for $75 million.
On May 6, 2009, the company announced it was to be acquired by Micro Focus for $75 million.
Micro Focus can't afford to wait until 1997, and is making its marker and sounding out the market now.
Micro Focus has been had an object-oriented research programme under way since 1989 to explore what it really means to have re-usable code in practice.
