It was purchased in 1816 by the trustees of the Morristown Green who have been responsible for its maintenance ever since.

In addition, another large apartment project has been proposed for the five-acre Epstein Department Store site across from the historic Morristown Green.

"Once I was supposed to meet a caller on the Morristown Green, and he didn't show up," Mr. Sette said.

The downtown shopping and business district of Morristown is centered around a square park, known as the Morristown Green.

Events begin at 7 p.m. and culminate with a fireworks display over the Morristown Green at midnight.

Last month, Century 21 moved in to the former Macy's building on the Morristown Green.

Not everyone is enamored of the Morristown Green, however.

Admission is free to the farm, on Kahdena Road off Route 24, a little more than a mile west of the Morristown Green.
