"My doctor says he's healthy enough to make an identification," Hatch said.

"You want something to worry about, pick her," Hatch said.

To people with good sense the danger is minimal, Hatch says, but it's real.

"If he felt that way, good for him," Hatch said.

Hatch has said that he will retire at the end of his seventh term.

Mr. Hatch said he hoped to sign up more soon.

"If we can find some way to do this without destroying their machines, we'd be interested in hearing about that," Hatch said.

Mr. Hatch said he would fight the nomination as well.

"I was very appreciative of that - he could have voted the other way," Hatch says.
