"We had things that took 20 takes," Mr. Joy said.

Mr. Joy said they would all be back by the end of this week.

"You wouldn't believe the list of complaints they came up with," Mr. Joy said.

Of course it could be that Mr. Joy is wrong.

Mr. Joy continues to be influenced by his first love, music.

It also convinced Mr. Joy to run for governor this year.

His recent role, Mr. Joy said, has been to help shape the early thinking on technology projects that are then handed off to others.

Still, Mr. Joy emphasized that he did not plan to think too seriously about business for another year or so.

The book project, according to Mr. Joy, is not going well.

Mr. Joy argues that advances are now on the horizon in each of the three areas he addresses.
