Mrs. Winters was among about 600 women who were on duty by the end of April 1917.
I didn't meet Mrs. Winter, she was busy at school.
Mrs. Winter takes her material from what she calls "the 398" section of the library, where fairy tales and traditional stories are shelved.
"Some nights it is not so easy," Mrs. Winters said.
"I haven't an outdoor key, and Mrs. Winter is very strict about us being in by then unless we make special arrangements."
"It's nice to have lived here and know that we didn't make a big mistake," Mrs. Winter said.
Mrs. Winter likes to finish them with wide but not tight waistbands.
But the bulk of it goes to us and to Mrs. Winter.
Having no letter box of her own, she depended on Mrs. Winter to take in any post she might get.
"Mrs. Winters often steps away when my four o'clock arrives."
