Ms. Monk has edited her score for the audio medium, and it works on its own terms.

As a result, dance and music have always been inseparable for Ms. Monk.

Ms. Monk said she was a little worried about imposing her vision on the place, "getting in the way of the space."

In the early 1980's, Ms. Monk began to concentrate on music.

The program will include several works by Ms. Monk.

Ms. Monk composed her own music for these pieces but also wrote independent scores.

Ms. Monk, in contrast, stares outward across the earth and history.

For Ms. Monk, it was possibly even more of a departure.

But as of a week ago, Ms. Monk was still making changes.

"When we got up on our feet, it was a very free atmosphere, trying whatever you wanted to try," Ms. Monk remembered.
