The township was created in 1974 after the amalgamation of two other townships: Marlborough, and North Gower.

In 1905 Rideauville, Westboro and North Gower were incorporated as police villages.

He currently lives in North Gower, Ontario.

On December 8, 1995, in North Gower, the provincial and federal governments announced a financing deal to ensure Highway 416 South was completed by 2000.

The village of North Gower was first settled in 1846 and was originally known as Stephensville.

He served as deputy reeve for North Gower in 1877 and 1878.

He taught school in North Gower for five years.

He taught school for five years in North Gower and then settled upon a farm which he had purchased.

About the same time he was appointed clerk of the Division Court, including North Gower and Marlboro.
