Wasp began 1969 in her home port of Quonset Point.

The ship returned to Quonset Point on 6 March and began a month of preparations for overseas movement.

The ship arrived back at Quonset Point on 13 December and remained there for the holidays.

She arrived back at Quonset Point on 4 November.

She then returned to Quonset Point and remained in her home port for the remainder of the year preparing for decommissioning.

She operated out of Quonset Point, Rhode Island, until the beginning of 1955.

During the 1960s and early 1970s, four aircraft carriers used Quonset Point as their home port.

This improvement has helped quadruple automobile imports at Quonset Point.

Over the next 18 months, the unit conducted numerous training exercises along the East Coast, many of them taking place at Quonset Point.
