Inflation Threat Denied Secretary Reich contended there was no inflation threat in the United States and thus "no need for a tightening of monetary policy."

Secretary Reich said today that such "wiggle room" would be substantially reduced under the proposal, which covers most - but not all - pension plans.

Secretary Reich, who has argued that education and training provide the best assurance of job security, contends that most members of the anxious class have only high-school educations.

"It is fundamentally immoral to expect people to work full time for $8,600 a year," said Secretary Reich.

"He goes along with Karl Marx in many of his writings," Mr. Cunningham said of Secretary Reich.

Secretary Reich said the law had had "possibly a small effect" on wages in general.

Miller says she told Secretary Reich, "I want to help people with their feet stuck in the mud."

"For a worker earning the minimum wage of $4.25 an hour, our cap would cost just 15 cents an hour more," Secretary Reich said.

On the other hand, Secretary Reich's specific challenge in November to the capital's research organizations to produce their own lists of corporate targets has been eagerly accepted.

Secretary Reich said the law is apparently being used as it was intended to be, mainly to take care of children and elderly parents.
