Private Lonetree was said to have had an affair with a Russian woman employed at the embassy who drew him into the service of a man she called "Uncle Sasha."

The defense has contended that "Uncle Sasha" was an American double agent who, for several years, had had regular contacts with at least three State Department security officials and continued the contacts after Sergeant Lonetree's arrest in December.

According to the charges, Sergeant Lonetree then worked with two Soviet agents, identified in the Marine charges as Aleksiy G. Yefimov, or Uncle Sasha, and Yuriy V. Lysov, or George.

They escape together to the Ukraine where they fight for years with Jewish partisans, led by Uncle Sasha, a doctor who lost his family earlier in the war.

Miss Seina was said to have introduced him to a man she called "Uncle Sasha," who has been identified by prosecutors as a K.G.B. agent named Aleksei G. Yefimov.

In January 1986, the relationship became sexual and Miss Seina introduced Sergeant Lonetree to "Uncle Sasha," actually a K.G.B. agent.

According to the trial documents, Private Lonetree sold Uncle Sasha, who was identified as Alexei G. Yefsimov, floor plans of the American Embassies in Vienna and Moscow.

Soon after, the sexual encounters began, Ms. Seina introduced Sergeant Lonetree to her "Uncle Sasha," identified at the trial as Aleksei G. Yefimov, a K.G.B. agent.
