The team was originally known as the Waterbury Spirit, based out of Waterbury, Connecticut.
The Waterbury Spirit began play in 1997 in the Northeast League.
So in July 1997, he wangled a pitching turn in Connecticut for the Waterbury Spirit in the Northeast League.
In 1997 the stadium became home to the Waterbury Spirit which spent four seasons in the Independent League.
The following month, the Waterbury Spirit of the independent Northeast League was looking for a trainer.
Meanwhile, the league expanded into Waterbury, Connecticut and Allentown, Pennsylvania with the Waterbury Spirit and Allentown Ambassadors.
The team would be replaced by the Waterbury Spirit for the 1997 season.
Tsamis managed the Waterbury Spirit (1999-2000) and New Jersey Jackals (2001-02), winning league titles with the Jackals in both his seasons.
The team was unable to achieve this goal and the Cougars, along with the Waterbury Spirit, ceased operations.
