The Baker Street and Waterloo Railway had been authorised to run from Baker Street to Waterloo station.

The Baker Street & Waterloo Railway (BS&WR) station opened on 5 August 1906, five months after the rest of the line.

On 10 March 1906, the Baker Street & Waterloo Railway (BS&WR, now the Bakerloo line) was opened.

The later Baker Street and Waterloo Railway followed a similar alignment for part of its route.

A third company, The Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, secured an Act in 1893.

Designed by Leslie Green, the station was opened by the Baker Street & Waterloo Railway on 10 March 1906, with the name Kennington Road.

The station opened on the Central London Railway on 30 July 1900, with the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway's platforms opening on 10 March 1906.
