The goal was to eventually add an additional lane to the street.

Finally, there will be one additional lane in each direction on the section from 200 to 216 Streets.

Due to favorable response, the additional lane was made permanent and currently remains in use.

During peak hours, traffic is allowed to use the shoulder as an additional lane.

When the $75 million project is completed, one additional lane will be added in each direction, along with the wider new bridges.

As a practical matter, the right of way could not fit any additional lanes other than the current six in each direction.

Currently (2007), the plan is for a tunnel to be built underneath the park to carry the additional lanes.

So the additional 2 lanes were built behind the businesses on the left side of the road heading south.

However, there are in certain places where additional lanes are available.

This will widen the road by an additional lane in each direction.
