"It wouldn't be right for the country now to have a great big vote on an in/out referendum and the rest of it."

This is not a batch of people large enough to produce big votes, so it just goes on.

"That one vote was a pretty big vote," he said.

He only could have got it with a big popular vote and few seats to match.

"It's a very big vote of confidence in Indonesia," he added.

That is the more likely outcome of any August election, despite the big vote this year.

Lynch himself received the biggest personal vote in the state.

"But telling us that we can keep the race here is a big vote of confidence."

The third big vote on May 5 is, however, the most important.

I hope, therefore, that Parliament will feel able to give the report a big vote of approval.
